I didn’t originally intend to do any product reviews, other than cat related ones.  I have had such a life changing experience with a free one, that I felt it should be shared.  I have been plagued by insomnia for at least half of my life.  Particularly the latter half, and even more so in the past decade, since I have had to take strong narcotics for chronic pain.   Let me emphasize I’m not being sponsored in any way shape or form by Pzizz.com.Pzizz_Sleep app logo

They have created an app for both iPhones and Android based cell phones and tablets.  The Android version is free, and the iPhone version is only $1.99.  Basically, it generates unique sounds and if you choose voice prompts to help you fall asleep and stay asleep.  It can even give you suggestions.  It has two modes.  One for sleeping at night, and another for power naps.  My father will be glad to know that his unscientific theory of a twenty minutes for the ideal power nap, is medically endorsed.   I have tried both modules, and found them to work amazingly well.  The music in generated new each time.  I guess they found that identically repetitive sounds, like waves slapping or the same recording of crickets or whatever, lose their effectiveness over time.  I would describe the music as a cross between classical, pan pipes, Native American music, techno, and nature sounds.  At least that is what I’ve been presented with so far.  I turn the volume so low, I can barely hear it.

At its worst, I could only get around two hours sleep a night.  I have instituted a number of other sleep techniques and been able to push that number to around five hours.  But with at least one or two times of waking up during that time period.  Now I am regularly getting seven hours of uninterrupted sleep.  More importantly, it is deep restful sleep.  This app has been voted one of the Best Apps of 2015 by Healthline.com and has a five-star rating on Google Play, and over 400,000 users.  If you have trouble sleeping, please give it a try.  You have to charge your phone or tablet anyways.  You might as well put it to work during that time as well.
